Clinical Work: Dr. Sobon has dedicated her career to the prevention and treatment of learning and mental health disorders among children and their families by improving children’s attachment to their caregivers and their school-based experiences. Her clinical interests include neurodevelopmental and learning disorders, parent training, disruptive and dysregulated behavior, trauma-focused healing-centered care, systems consultation, neuropsychological evaluations, and pediatric anxiety and related disorders. She has board certification with the American Board of School Neuropsychology.
Research Focus: Dr. Sobon in interested in educator wellbeing and its connection to student mental health and learning outcomes.
BIO
Dr. Michelle Sobon has dedicated her career to the prevention and treatment of learning and mental health disorders among children and their families by improving children’s attachment to their caregivers and school-based experiences. Dr. Sobon is an assistant professor and licensed clinical psychologist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Department of Psychiatry’s clinic and Center for Wellbeing in School Environments (WISE). She holds a master’s in business administration and doctorate in clinical psychology from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
Dr. Sobon completed her APA accredited doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Applewood Centers, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio, where she specialized in clinical child psychology. She subsequently completed postgraduate training in neuropsychology through the American Board of School Neuropsychology.
Her clinical interests include neurodevelopmental and learning disorders, early childhood mental health, parent training, disruptive and dysregulated behavior, trauma-focused healing-centered care, systems consultation, neuropsychological evaluations, and pediatric anxiety and related disorders. In her clinical and research work with the WISE Center, Dr. Sobon has merged her interests in organizational wellbeing, program development, and school-based services by focusing on educator wellbeing. She sees children and families in the clinic for outpatient and intensive outpatient care. She enjoys teaching and supervising child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, psychiatry residents, psychology doctoral trainees, and medical students.
